How Fingerprint Rings Were First Created
One day I met with a young couple to design for them their perfect wedding ring. The bride-to-be had some very clear ideas for her engagement and wedding rings – she wanted modern but romantic. Designing and refining the remaining details for her ring design was easy. The design for the Groom was a lot more challenging. He wanted a wedding ring with a black background and a raised white gold pattern to completely encircle the ring. The challenge being there are a whole range of patterns commonly used to decorate a wedding ring of this kind. It was clear he knew what he liked (he was bold and experimental) and a traditional wedding ring was not going to suit his sense of style - it had to be a whole lot more… he wanted something that was uniquely his own.
As I worked through the design process the pattern was emerging with a unique wave-like movement as it flowed around the ring...and then I had an idea, would a fingerprint would work?? I was excited by my discovery - her fingerprint on his wedding ring!
I quickly contacted the couple and asked if it was ok to put her fingerprint onto a piece of paper, scan it into their computer and email it to me. As soon as I received it, I got to work. Using the latest in design technology, I transferred the fingerprint to the ring. The first Fingerprint Wedding Ring was born.
This ring means so much to him now. It's not just a very good looking ring (which receives comments wherever he goes) but it is more personal than any other design.
